Paying for Surgery

Private Insurance

Many patients are surprised to find out that their insurance coverage includes part or most of a bariatric procedure.  Even with the same insurance provider, two plans can have varying coverage, so it is important to call your insurance provider (the number is usually on the back of the card) and ask:

  1. Does my plan include bariatric surgery coverage?
  2. Do I need a referral from my Primary Care Provider to see a specialist?

We accept most major insurance providers, including, but not limited to:

  • AETNA
  • Anthem
  • Blue Cross / Blue Shield
  • CareSource
  • CHAMPVA
  • Emblem Health
  • EMPIRE
  • Excellus
  • Fidelis
  • Health Republic
  • Horizon
  • Highmark
  • Independent Health
  • Indian Health Service
  • United HealthCare
  • Univera
  • Wellcare
  • and others

Don't see your insurance listed?  Call them and ask if you have bariatric coverage!

Medicare & Medicaid

These programs also can cover your bariatric procedure, although their criteria for authorizing your bariatric procedure can be a little different from private insurances.  We will make sure you understand these criteria fully as part of your process towards surgery.
